Cantonese Language Program
Application for 2022-2023 Winter Term 1 & Term 2 is now open.
Undergraduate Student Teaching Assistant (TA):
- Current undergraduate students at UBC.
- High level of fluency in Cantonese (knowledge in Yale/Jyutping highly desirable)
- Ability to prepare teaching materials
- Training or previous experience in language teaching desirable
- Successful completion of CNTO 401/403/451 (can fulfill during employment)
Period of Employment:
Term 1: September 1 – December 31, 2022
Term 2: January 1 – April 30, 2023
NOTE: All teaching assistantships for the 2022 Winter session will be 192 hours per course unless otherwise noted.
General nature of the duties:
Preparation of and instruction in the language laboratory, discussion periods, tutorial sessions, review sessions and lectures; teaching ; keeping class records; setting, marking and providing feedback on examinations, tests and assignments; holding office hours; invigilating exams and assisting instructors to conduct oral exams; management and maintenance of a website and competence in Connect ; duplicating materials; ordering and obtaining AV equipment; demonstrating procedures or setting up demonstrations.
- Current undergraduate students at UBC.
- High level of fluency in Cantonese (knowledge in Yale/Jyutping highly desirable)
- Experience in design and video editing/production
- Good work ethic, communication skills, and professionalism
- Successful completion of CNTO 401/403/451 (can fulfill during employment)
Period of Employment:
September 1, 2022 – April 30, 2023
Up to a total of 300 hours.

- Schedule an interview with CNTO instructor(s);

Attend at least 2 CNTO class observation sessions;

Work with the current TA(s) and teach 1 tutorial session (for TA only);

Participate in one Cantonese extracurricular activity or service project;

Completion of CNTO 401/403/451 (preferred).
